Classes are held at St. Michaels School immediately following dismissal on Wednesdays and Thursdays (see class selection below) and will run for 8 weeks begining on January 23 and ending on March 13. All classes are one hour in length running from 2:45PM – 3:45PM. Parents will pick up their children in the auditorium lobby. Register via the online form, in person or by phone. In this class the students will have fun doing weird and wacky science experiments. They will have hands on activities to review many science concepts. This is a class for the mad scientist at heart. Grades K-1 - Reading and Phonics Start your child off with the basics. We will explore the phonetic sounds and venture into the world of books. Students will review and strengthen their reading and phonic comprehension using a variety of books, games, and manipulatives. Grades 2-3 - Insects What lives in your backyard? Bugs are the creatures that live in our yards; they crawl, they creep and they get under your skin. In this class we will explore these insects and even make a few. Grades 4-5 - Journey Into Space Let’s take a journey to the unknown; what lurks in space? In this class we will explore the planets, constellations and the structure of outer space. For those who are interested in the unknown, and want to explore places that we know little about, then this is the class for you. Grades 6-8 - Digital Photography Digital Cameras: the way to take the pictures to remember. In this class, the students will learn the basics of using a digital camera. They will learn all about the various digital media. Students will need to have their own digital camera for this class. Thursday Classes Grade Pre-K - Our Body Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes-Eyes and ears and the mouth and the nose-In this class we will explore the human body. The children will create their own paper model of the body and learn how the parts work. Grades K-1 - Cold Weather Crafts When the weather turns cold, winter crafts will keep you warm inside. The children will use various materials such as balloons, felt, pipe cleaners, and pom poms to make warm creations to warm their hearts. Grades 2-3 - Math Magic Math is a part of our everyday lives and through an imaginative bustle of activities we will learn basic math concepts while having fun. Students will develop critical thinking skills while enjoying math games, puzzles and brain teasers. The magic will occur when the children solve the problems through fun and exciting methods. Grades 4-5 - Study and Organizational Skills The students will learn strategies for succeeding in the classroom: how to take notes, how to listen effectively and how to plan ahead for long term projects. This class will get you ready for what is to come in the upper grades. Grades 6-8 - Public Speaking Do you get nervous, or have butterflies when you have to make a presentation to your class? This is the class for you! This class will prepare you to learn how to speak in front of a group. It will build your confidence and lessen your fear.
