Principal's March Letter

February 27, 2008

Dear Parents,

The teachers and students are recuperating from the virus, flu, etc.... If your child is absent, please do not send him or her to school until he or she is symptom free for 24 hours. Our school nurse, Mrs. Gerckens, sent a note home regarding this matter. Unfortunately, some of you are disregarding her message. If you need homework for an absent child, the homeroom teacher should be notified first thing in the morning, not the end of the day.

Thank you for your patience with our recent menu changes due to the recent recall of wholesale products from the Hallmark/Westland Meat Company. Any beef currently being held in inventory at any Maschio school is safe and is not part of the recall.

Next week, teachers in grades 1 through 7 will administer the Terra Nova Standardized tests. Make sure your child is well rested, has a hearty breakfast and comes prepared with several sharpened #2 pencils. The tests will change the schedule for most specials. Your child’s teacher will notify your child if the gym uniform should be worn.

This year the students in grades 5 through 8 participated yet again in the DAR essay context. This year’s theme was centered on espionage during the American Revolution. We had several winners in the local Crane’s Ford Chapter and three * state level winners: Gr. 5- 1st place-*Katherine Carolan -2nd place-Julia Nicholas-3rd place-Stephen Oro Gr. 6- 1st place Bridget Duffy 3rd place- John Shaw Gr. 7-1st place-*Janine Puhak – 2nd place-Katherine Casais- 3rd place- Emily Fetsko Gr. 8- 1st place *Nicole Chevallier- 2nd place-Alexander Nelson-3rd place Michael D’Agostino

The Writing Assessment for grades 4 and 7 also garnered great results. The students all fell into the average to above average range. One student in particular, Mae Rose Adubato 7B, was given a perfect score using the 1-6 holistic scale.

Congratulations to all who are doing their best!

Spring is almost here. With it comes Easter break. The second trimester ends in mid-March. Report Cards will be distributed the week we return from Easter break.

May your Easter be blessed!
