Feast of St. Michael

October 25, 2006

Dear Parents,

The Feast of St. Michael was again an enormous success because of the efforts of our dedicated school and parish community. The Feast of St. Michael is labor intensive and requires almost one thousand volunteer hours.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Feast of St. Michael both through volunteerism and attendance.

The MOM’s group and Rosary Society ran the successful dessert and coffee café while the Knights of Columbus were on hand at the grill. These groups spent countless hours and were essential to the feast success.

I would also like to thank the volunteers who ran committees critical to the feasts success: Jeanne Sabatino, volunteer coordinator; the Byrnes and Palacios, ticket sales; the McGanns, Dombrowskis, Oros and Wurzburgers, games; Kathleen Monte, MOM’s and Rosary Society café; Michael Fetsko, 50/50 sales; MaryBeth Sullivan and Stacy White, emcees; Eva McGlynn and Tracy Brightman, entertainment; Leo Schaefer and Mark DeVoti, security; Bob Plant, marketing; Corine Patrino, kitchen and Don Murphy in maintenance.

Thank you to Cheryl Mulligan from the Calm Approach and Jackie and Keith Jarosz from Gourmet Grinds who generously donated all of their proceeds to the Feast.

In addition to being a wonderful parish and family activity, the feast is an opportunity to serve the community of Cranford. Throughout last year, many people told me how at home they were made to feel and how their children recounted their feast memories all year long.

The Feast of St. Michael is also the premier fundraising event of the year. Despite the mixed weather the Feast raised $40,500 in net profits. To provide some perspective, last year the Feast raised $42,500 in profits under a cloudless blue sky and a bulging crowd. This year, our second time around, we were better able to plan our needs which directly impacted our profits. Similar to last year’s playground donation, a portion of the feasts proceeds will be designated for funding a science lab upgrade.

Two key elements of the feast are the sponsorship program and the 50/50 Raffle. Thanks to our sponsors, a generous group of businesses, groups and individuals our Feast continues to grow. Listed on the back are our sponsors. Please remember them with your patronage. The 50/50 grossed $12,830, distributing $4,490 to the first place winner, $1,283 to the second place winner and $641 to the third place winner, all of whom are parishioners.

As we look ahead to next year’s Third Annual Feast of St. Michael, several areas of improvement have been identified including more teen rides and expanding our volunteer base. I welcome your comments and suggestions. Please feel free to call me with any feedback at the Parish Center (276-0360) or email me at Noesner@MSN.com.

And again, thank you!

Sincerely,

Kara Noesner
